Howsham Mill is located in a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The latter is a European designation relating to particular species and habitat features: otter, sea lamprey, river lamprey, bullhead and water-crowfoot beds.
Birds noted on the island have included kingfisher, woodpigeon, chiffchaff, blackcap, wren, robin, treecreeper, grey wagtail, marsh tit and chaffinch. We would like to know what wildlife and plants you have spotted on the island.
